First Night in Charleston
By Pastor Andrew Bullard | July 12, 2011
Luminocity arrived in Charleston late Monday afternoon about at about 5pm eastern time. The van pulled up to a store front known as Hope Assembly on King Street in the inner-city of Charleston. We had an unexpected night off (the cardinal rule of mission's trips is always be what? FLEXIBLE!) so I took them to Folly Beach, about a thirty-minute drive from downtown. Later, we headed to what is known as "The Battery" where a group of eighteenth century houses known as "Rainbow Row" exists. They were pretty excited to see a little bit of Charleston. During our planned free time on Friday afternoon/evening, we will go to a different beach and spend more time downtown.
Tuesday morning the work begins! We'll be gearing up for the VBS and the students will be given a short orientation by Pastor Gordon Cashwell, the lead pastor at Hope Assembly. After VBS and into the evening, we will be working around the church on one of the many needs they have. Check back tomorrow for another update. A different student will write about their experience and post a picture or two each day. Be praying for God to do an amazing work in the lives of not just our students, but the many others they will encounter here in the inner-city of Charleston. See you guys Sunday!
